Top 50 Most Admired Company at Fortune China 2013

One thousand two hundred and eighty seven people accepted the “Fortune” (Chinese version) questionnaire and answered all the questions. Look below to see what they think of as China’s Most Admired Companies. “Fortune” (Chinese version) surveyed 300 company candidates. The survey’s scoring criteria include the company's products and services, status, long-term investment value, rational use of company assets, innovation, quality of management, and the ability to attract and retain talent. Based on these nine standards, the list of companies has been selected for their outstanding performance in the Year 2013.

  The 2013 edition of “Fortune” (Chinese version), containing the list of “China's Most Admired Companies”, was released on September 27, 2013. Millet Technology has become the youngest company ever to make to the All-Star List, having been founded only three years ago.  Baidu, Alibaba and Haier all made to their fourth consecutive top-three All-Star finish.  This year, Alibaba its winning streak as first since 2011; Baidu ranks second, and Haier ranks third.
  
   Compared to last year, eleven new companies have made to this year’s “China's Most Admired Company.” These newcomers are Millet Technology, SAIC, China Aerospace Science and Industry Group, Industrial and Commercial Bank, China Minsheng Bank, the Founder Group, Fosun International, China National Offshore Oil, Gome, and Bright Food and Merchants.

  Millet Technology ranks #11 on the list.  It is considered to be the youngest company to be considered one of 2013 “China's Most Admired Companies.” Millet Technology has recently completed the fourth round of financing and its overall valuation has reached ten billion U.S. dollars. That all happened within a three year period. With its Internet properties hardware production in Millet Technology hardware production, or to redefine the Internet field pattern. Many business leaders praise the company’s ability to find a group of charismatic managers in today’s uncertain economy.

Among the list’s top ten CEOs, there are only two CEOs above age 50.  The majority of companies listed have CEOs within the 40-50 year range. These successful entrepreneurs can be generated by two major environmental influences: the first set of companies were transformed under reformed leadership and then re-developed into more efficient organizations after ten years of its first opening in the market.  Haier, Lenovo, Huawei, Wanda, Trinity, and Greece are examples of this type of company on the list. The second group of companies belongs in the information economy. This list includes high-tech and Internet-based companies such as Ali, Baidu, Tencent, and Jingdong. These companies are well managed and they have won much praise for their achievements. However, they still have to face two challenges: 1) how they can still be appreciated in 30 years 2) how they can continue to lead their companies so that they remain considered among the world’s most admired companies.

  How did the All-Star List and Industry Standings start?

  Local enterprise in China accounts for the majority of those companies that make the list.  The information about the 300 company candidates is taken from China’s State Information Center, the National Bureau of Statistics, the SASAC, China Enterprise Confederation, Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchange, and the National Federation. Through the network of 30,000 Chinese enterprise administrators, “Fortune” issued a questionnaire, and it received a total of 1,287 responses.  Individual company’s responses are scored based on the following nine criteria.

  1. Status of products and services

  2. Long-term investment value

  3.  Rational use of company assets

  4. Innovation

  5. Management Quality

  6. Financial Soundness

  7. The ability to attract and retain talent

  8 Social Responsibility

  9. Global management effectiveness

  Each of those surveyed must fill out the questionnaire in two parts. The first part consists of rating those peer companies in the respondent’s industries. The rating is based on industry-specific practices.  Those companies that rank in the top five based on the rating criteria given will be put into the final list. The second part of the selection process involves selection of those companies in different industries. Those 50 companies that score the best make to the “China’s Most Admired Companies” All-Star list. In any case, the respondents are not allowed to choose their own company.
